Of all the questions that keep people up at night, all the queries that force anxious minds into existential dread, one of the most pressing is: "How much toilet paper does each state use?"

Rest easy now, dear reader, as a recent study has revealed just that.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing — an Oklahoma City-based company that's been in the business for about half a century — recently released their "Ultimate Toilet Paper Survey" in order to expand upon on how much the people of the United States rely on the product (and how this usage can negatively affect their plumbing).

"Among the many products we take for granted on a daily basis, toilet paper is at (or very near) the top of that list," reads the survey's accompanying article. "From stopping a bloody nose to squishing unwanted pests to the more obvious applications, the quiet hero plays a vital role in our daily lives. That assuming natural is exactly why we wanted to shed some light on its usage across the U.S."

To properly shed this light, Mr. Rooter surveyed 3,000-plus Americans across the country during a two-week period back in March. Questions included those pertaining to how much toilet paper they typically use as well as how often they use it.

Out of all the states, it was Pennsylvania that was found to be using the most toilet paper with an average of 6,407.51 feet per year. This, as pointed out by the article, is the length of more than 20 football fields.

"Regarding sheer volume, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and Michigan lead the country in toilet paper usage, with individual residents flushing enough annually to stretch over two-thirds the length of the Golden Gate Bridge," highlights the study.

On the bright side, although Keystone State residents use the most toilet paper a year on average, they don't spend the most on it: That honor goes to South Carolina, who was found to spend an estimated $23,151.26 on the "quiet hero" per annum.
